Toernooisamenvatting

Titelverdedigsters Linky Boshoff en Ilana Kloss kwamen niet verder dan de tweede ronde.

Het als eerste geplaatste duo Martina Navrátilová en Betty Stöve won het toer­nooi. In de finale ver­sloe­gen zij het ongeplaatste Amerikaanse koppel Renée Richards en Betty-Ann Stuart in twee sets, met een tiebreak in de tweede set. Het was hun tiende gezamen­lijke titel, de eerste (en enige) op de grandslam­toernooien. De Amerikaanse Navrátilová had daar­naast twaalf eerdere dubbel­spel­titels met andere partners (waarvan twee grandslamtitels); de Nederlandse Stöve 39 (waarvan drie grandslamtitels).

De Belgische Michèle Gurdal speelde samen met Naoko Satō uit Japan – zij verloren reeds hun openingspartij.
