Introduction bewerken
Welcome visitor. I'm a male from the Netherlands. I've used this nickname a few times in a game long time ago. I can't remember which game it was. Basically I opted for a girls name as a nick for artistic reasons (I'm so not artsy by the way). I use Gretchen as it is a beautiful name in my view. Mädel is German for "woman or girl" and nick is an abbreviation for 'nickname'. Combine those three words into 'Gretchen Mädelnick'. My background is Bachelor of Engineering, or to be more specific, my specialization is industrial electronics. I served in the army for 8 years in a signal corp as a 2LT. After my time in the army I started out as a programmer - mainly C and C++ - and a few years later I received an offer to lead a Business Intelligence Developers team. I took the offer and that's what I'm still doing, amongst having an advisory function here and there. Furthermore, I'm and I quit smoking successfully on January 17th, 2012 - cold turkey and without aids.
Movies bewerken
A good deal of my time is spent by writing movie reviews. Obviously I love movies, especially as a phenomena. I feel the main stream movies are getting worse every year. But there you go. I watch them and review them.
Cartoons bewerken
Also, I love some cartoons. Here are a few of them: The Family Guy, The Simpsons, Southpark, Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken.
Series bewerken
Besides owning almost everything from the mentioned cartoons, I also like Red Dwarf (first 5 seasons that is), Blake's 7, 'Allo 'Allo!, Serenity, Shaka Zulu (TV series) and I, Claudius (TV series). There's more but this will give you a nice hint on what I like.
Science Fiction bewerken
Oh boy, I own almost everything as of the 70's, excluding the B-movies. Science Fiction is definitely my forte.
No Television, No Radio, No Newspaper bewerken
I haven't watched television nor did I listen to the radio for the past 13 years or so. The emptiness, the lack of real information accompanied with political correctness, senseless yelling and completely unnecessary nudity made me quit watching the T.V.. By the way, did you know that brain-scans show an almost completely inactive brain when watching television? Playing videogames shows more brain activity. Nor do I read the newspaper. Instead, I gather all my information from the Internet. Occasionally I browse the channels on SHOUTcast for music. Boy let me tell you, not depending on the tele, papers or radio is a liberation. People think they can't live without it, but once you're used to the (much better) alternative you do not want to go back.
