Fazul Abdullah Mohammed (Arabic: فازول عبدالله محمد) (born either August 25, 1972; December 25, 1974; or
February 25, 1974 -- January 8, 2007) was a suspected member of Al Qaeda and sometimes purported to be the leader of Al Qaeda's East Africa cell. Mohammed is believed to have been a conspirator in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings, for which he was indicted in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Consequently, he was named on October 10, 2001 on the initial list of the FBI's top 22 Most Wanted Terrorists. He had once moved into the house of Egyptian Wadih el Hage (an early Brooklyn conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing), where he served as a secretary. He was killed by the United States in an airstrike in Somalia in early January, 2007.

On May 26, 2004, United States Attorney General John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller announced that reports indicated that Fazul Abdullah Mohammed was one of seven al-Qaeda members who were planning a terrorist action for the summer or fall of 2004. The other alleged terrorists named on that date were Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, who had been listed since 2001 by the FBI along with Mohammed as a Most Wanted Terrorist, Amer El-Maati, Aafia Siddiqui, Adam Yahiye Gadahn, Abderraouf Jdey, and Adnan G. El Shukrijumah. Jdey was already on the FBI Seeking Information - War on Terrorism list since January 17, 2002, to which the other four were added as well. According to an FBI interrogation report, an associate of Mohammed confessed that the militant trained with Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan. Fazul Abdullah Mohammed was currently thought to be in the Ras Kamboni area of Southern Somalia under the protection of the Islamic Courts Union. On January 8, 2007 a US Air Force AC-130 gunship targeted Al-Qaeda targets in the area. It is not yet completely clear if he was one of the targets however it is likely as The Pentagon has said the "target of the strike was the principal al Qaeda leadership in the region." His death was later verified in an intelligence report provided to Somali authorities by the United States. The United States has yet to confirm his death.
