De producttopologie op <math>\mathbb{R}^n</math> van <math>n</math> keer de gewone topologie op <math>\mathbb{R}</math> is dezelfde als de topologie van de Euclidische afstandsfunctie op <math>\mathbb{R}^n</math>.
De verzameling van ''alle'' reële afbeeldingen <math>\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}</math> kan worden opgevat als het oneindig Cartesisch product <math>\mathbb{R}^\mathbb{R}</math>. De producttopologie is de topologie van ''puntsgewijze convergentie'', d.w.z. dat een rij reële functies <math>(f_1,f_2,\ldots,f_n,\ldots)</math> in deze topologie convergeert als en slechts als hun waarden in ieder punt <math>x</math> afzonderlijk
