Mensen, er staat onzin over de geschiedenis van samba hier. Zo had Tridge helemaal geen DOS in die tijd, wel SunOS en wou hij pathworks van DEC emuleren, niet SMB van Microsoft (SMB dat in 1992 nog helemaal niet bestond op Microsoft systemen).

In de woorden van Tridge zelf: "Furthermore, I didn't find out that Samba inter-operated at all with any version of DOS or Windows until nearly two years after I did that first release. The earliest versions of Samba were aimed at being compatible with clients for the Digital Equipment Corporation "Pathworks" product suite, which was an early implementation of the SMB protocol that was quite popular at the time, and that ran on Ultrix and VMS systems. My initial motivation was to implement the same protocol on SunOS, so that I could use my desktop system to access the departmental Unix server."

Bedankt voor uw opmerking, ik heb de tekst inmiddels aangepast aan de hand van de tekst in http://ftp.samba.org/pub/unpacked/samba-docs/archives/history. Ik kon helaas zo snel geen manier goede manier bedenken om de details met betrekking tot Pathworks en de gebruikte werkwijze in de tekst op te nemen. Dit zou echter wel een mooie aanvulling vormen op het artikel. --Tjibbe I (overleg) 29 mei 2013 00:11 (CEST)
