The name
bewerkenExcuse me for writing in English. The article says that the name comes from flax-seeds ("lijnzaad"), which is wrong. The name comes from latin lignum, which means "wood". (Just like lignine does, by the way).Episcophagus (overleg) 10 sep 2018 12:39 (CEST)

- @Bdijkstra: (Sorry for late reply, I don't check duwp daily.) It is derived in the same way as lignin (see lignin at memindex.com, section Etymology references). It consists of lign(i)- (the 'i' disappeears before a wovel) from lignum "wood" (see ligni- at memindex.com) and the suffix -an "belonging/relating/pertaining to" (see -an at memindex.com). Note especially the Merriam-Webster "unsaturated organic compound"! And, finally see lignan at memindex.com, section Etymology references, Merriam-Webster: "First use: 1944.
