Hoe wordt de vereiste hoogte vastgesteld? bewerken

Kan iemand bevestigen dat die hoogte van 7,65 meter boven NAP gerelateerd is aan kansberekeningen met betrekking tot stormvloeden die eens in de 10.000 jaar zouden voorkomen. Er staat mij iets van bij. Maar dit soort vage herinneringen zijn nogal eens onbetrouwbaar gebleken. Vandaar dat ik aarzel om zoiets dergelijks er in te zetten. Translation in French bewerken

I'm trying to translate this article into French. Does the word "Delta" apply to Delta work or to the whole country ? Or does it mean "difference" ? Some parts of the article are still obscure to me. Regards Laurentleap (overleg) 16 dec 2012 22:33 (CET)Reageren

I read your translation, which is quite good. About the word Delta: it means the river delta, in contrast to the Zuiderzee. Before 1953 flood protection focused on the Zuiderzee Works, but after the 1953 North Sea flood the focus shifted to the flooded parts of the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta. Big storm surge barriers along the coast line were built to protect the entire delta and to shorten the coast line.
I am not sure the following aspect is accurate in your translation. The Old Delta Works period (1957-2005) started with the Delta Law that specified the acceptable risk (the probability of a flood in different regions). Engineers then calculated which barriers were needed and how high they should be. We are now in the next period. The norm for the acceptable risk has remained the same, but engineers have new ideas about which barriers are needed and how high they should be. The new ideas take global warming into account, etc. Ceinturion (overleg) 17 dec 2012 01:32 (CET)Reageren
Thank you very much. Delta refers to the Rhine delta, this is what I thought. Then why talking about Zeeland, Texel, Friesland en Groningen in this article ? Also it never talks about strenght. Laurentleap (overleg) 17 dec 2012 10:20 (CET)Reageren
The Delta Law (1955) was named for its most urgent and spectacular part, the Delta Works: new dams, dikes and barriers to protect the Rhine-Meuse delta (which includes the Oosterschelde in Zeeland). But the Delta law also contained directions for increasing the height of the dikes elsewhere along the Dutch sea coast. The required height for a dike was called its Delta height, after the Delta law; but being at Delta height does not make those dikes in Texel, Friesland and Groningen part of the Delta Works. This Dutch wikipedia article is merely about Delta height (Deltahoogte). Other aspects of dike reinforcement might be discussed in other articles. Ceinturion (overleg) 17 dec 2012 15:12 (CET)Reageren
