Tatiana Silva Braga Tavares (born February 5, 1985) is a Belgian model with Cape Verdean roots, crowned Miss Belgium 2005.


Early life bewerken

On February 5, 1985 Tatiana Silva Braga Tavares was born in Brussels. Her extensive name reveals she is not of Belgian descent, but is originating of Cape Verde.

Tatiana was raised in Ukkel, a suburb of Brussels. Her parents divorced when she was a year old. Her father moved to Cape Verde, while Tatiana lived with her mother in [Ukkel]]. At age 16 she lost her mother to breast cancer.

In addition to her native French, Tatiana speaks Dutch, English, Portuguese and a bit of Spanish.


Career bewerken

In September 2004 Tatiana entered the Miss Brussels pageant and finished the competition as 1st runner-up. In December 2005 she went on to represent Brussels in the Miss Belgium pageant and was crowned Miss Belgium 2005.

During her year-long reign as Miss Belgium, she travelled around the world (Thailand, Aruba, Egypt, China, Argentina, Los Angeles, ...). In Los Angeles Tatiana was a guest at Quincy Jones's house, where at the same time Eddy Murphy was also present. During the same trip to LA she met Christian Audigier, designer of the trendy brands Ed Hardy and Smet.

Tatiana also represented Belgium in the Miss World 2005 pageant, the Miss Europe 2005 pageant and the Miss Universe 2006 pageant.

Currently she exploits her own clothing store in Duffel.


Charity bewerken

Tatiana does charitable work representing Handicap International. Undoubtedly more anecdotal, but also encouraging for staff and patients was her visit in Cambodia as ambassador of Handicap International. In Phnom Penh, Tatiana was totally charming in establishing herself as a pursuasive spokesperson for the Handicap International program to prevent road accidents. By Handicap International she is recognized as 'a very committed Beauty Queen'.
