Apple Inc. kondigt zijn product ontwerpen en updates voor software door middel van persconferenties, deze worden met grote belangstelling gevolgd door traditionele- en online media.^[1] Vaak wordt het doel van het evenement lang geheim gehouden, om zo voor veel mond-tot-mondreclame te zorgen.^[2] De evenementen zijn nagenoeg altijd livestream te bekijken via Apple's website.

Op het WWDC in 2005 kondigde Jobs aan dat het Macintosh platform zou voorzien van Intel x86 processors. De Keynote bestond onder andere uit een presentatie van Wolfram Research, die hun ervaringen overbrachten over de mathematiek in Mac OS X en het nieuwe Intel platform. De conferentie bestond uit 110 lab-sessies en 95 presentatie sessies, dat terwijl er meer dan 500 Apple technici aanwezig waren, samen met zo’n 3.800 deelnemers uit 45 verschillende landen.

In 2006, verzorgde Jobs eens meer de keynote presentatie op het WWDC, dat werd gehouden van 7 tot en met 11 augustus in het Moscone Center West, San Francisco. De Mac Pro werd aangekondigd als vervanger van de Power Mac G5. De standaard uitvoering van de Mac Pro bezat over 2.66 GHz dual core Xeon (Woodcrest) processors, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB harde schijf, en een videokaart van 256 MB. Een update van Xserve, gebaseerd op de dual core Xeons, werd evenals aangekondigd. Verdere productverbeteringen aan Apple's server line-up waren Redundant power en Lights Out Management. Daarnaast werd Mac OS X geüpdatet naar Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), waarin onder andere: volledige 64-bit appondersteuning, Time Machine, Boot Camp, Front Row, Photo Booth, Spaces, verbeteringen aan Spotlight, Core Animation, Universal Access verbeteringen, Mail verbeteringen, en verbeteringen aan het Dashboard. Het WWDC uit 2006 werd bezocht door 4.200 ontwikkelaars vanuit 48 verschillende landen, terwijl er 140 sessies werden gehouden er 100 hands-on labs voor ontwikkelaars waren. Meer dan 1.000 Apple technici waren tijdens het evenement aanwezig.^[bron?]

Macworld Expo (9 januari 2007) bewerken

At the Macworld Expo on January 9, 2007, Jobs announced that Apple Computer, Inc. would from that point on be known as Apple Inc., because computers were no longer the main focus of the company, which had shifted its emphasis to mobile electronic devices. The event also saw the announcement of the iPhone. Apple also began taking orders for the Apple TV.^[3] The following day, Apple shares hit $97.80, an all-time high at that point. In May, Apple's share price passed the $100 mark.^[4]

Aankondigen die gedaan werden tijdens dit evenement waren onder andere de App Store voor de iPhone en iPod Touch, the stable version of the iPhone SDK, a subsidized 3G version of the iPhone for Worldwide markets, 2de versie van iPhone OS, Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6), and the replacement/rebranding of .Mac as MobileMe.^[5]

Apple invited the press media for its event "Let us loop you in" on March 10, 2016 in their own theatre "Town Hall" (at 1 Infinite Loop).^[6] iPad Pro (9.7-inch), iPhone SE, CareKit and updates to Apple Watch, HealthKit, ResearchKit and tvOS were released.

WWDC 2016 (13 t/m 17 juni 2016) bewerken

Apple invited the press media and developers for its event on June 13, 2016 at Moscone West to unveil new versions of iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS, a revamped Apple Music design, and the Swift Playgrounds app - a learning tool for programming.

Apple hosted a media event on September 7, 2016 with the invitation's tagline "See you on the 7th".^[7] iPhone 7 en 7 Plus were announced along with Apple's new wireless AirPods. iOS 10 was also released. Sia performed at the event.^[8]

WWDC 2017 (5 t/m 9 juni 2017) bewerken

The 2017 Apple WWDC was held from 5 t/m 9 juni 2017 in het Convention Center van San Jose. An all-new iPad Pro model was introduced with thinner bezels and a 10.5-inch screen size. It acquired many of the specs from the iPhone 7 and an A10X chip. The iPad Pro 12.9-inch was also refreshed with updated internals. iOS 11 was announced, with a developer beta released just after. Apple previewed many new Macs such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, and an all-new iMac Pro. Apple's final announcement was HomePod.

Apple hosted a media event on September 12, 2017, with the tagline "Let's meet at our place". The tagline was a reference to Apple holding its first-ever event at the newly completed Steve Jobs Theater in the Apple Park campus.^[10] At the event, Apple Watch Series 3, Apple TV 4K, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, and iPhone X were announced. The release dates of iOS 11 and watchOS 4 were also announced.

WWDC 2018 werd gehouden van 4 tot en met 8 juni 2018 in het San Jose Convention Center in Californië.^[13]

The announcements at the event included iOS 12, macOS Mojave, watchOS 5, and updates to tvOS.^[14] Panic! at the Disco performed at the Bash at Discovery Meadow Park.

WWDC 2019 (3 t/m 7 juni 2019) bewerken

WWDC 2019 was held from 3 t/m 7 juni 2019 at the San Jose Convention Center in California.^[18]^[19] At the keynote that kicked off the event, Apple announced iOS 13, iPadOS, macOS Catalina, tvOS 13, watchOS 6, a redesigned Mac Pro, the Pro Display XDR^[20] and the new SwiftUI framework.
