Dog training method: '' 'The natural stimulation of the individual dog's inner motivation.' ''
bewerken

“The natural stimulation of the inner motivation of the individual dog” dog training method is based on the pre-existing natural inner behavior of the dog, supplemented with its specific breed characteristics and existing personal circumstances.

This method for raising dogs was developed in the 1990s by Theo van Hilst, dog behavior instructor. The method of positive and natural upbringing of dogs arose from the idea that the behavior of dogs is instinctive and natural and strongly related to the behavior of wolves, but only adapted to the modern conditions in which the animal has to function within our society.

It was Prof. Dr. Erich Klinghammer (February 28, 1930 - October 6, 2011), who derived the name ``The natural stimulation of the inner motivation in the individual dog.'' to the method after discussing the methodology and theory.

The basis of “The natural stimulation of the inner motivation in the individual dog” is the direct comparison in every situation of the behavior of dogs with the behavior of wolves.

The most important basis is therefore that absolutely no use is made of rewarding dogs by directly administering food or treats. The stimulation is achieved by using appropriate voice reward and correction, ranking play or ignoring behavior in the appropriate situation.

No use of food reward is based on the theory that higher ranked wolves never give food directly to lower ranked animals. A requirement in the education of dogs is that the handler is respected by the animal as being higher in rank. This means that when one wants to train a dog (in other words, impose the will), confusion is created in the dog, because the handler must on the one hand be accepted as higher in rank by the animal, but by administering food to the dog, the dog will regard itself as superior in rank.

Therefore, this method prevents conflict between handler and dog in rank. (Hand-dog conflicts have been shown to be 75% rank conflict).

It has now been shown that exercises and behavior learned via this method are also of a long-term nature. In other words; the dogs raised through the method; The natural stimulation of the individual dog's inner motivation does not forget the learned behaviors. The method also prevents aggressive behavior.
