Systematic placement bewerken

Please note that some leading authors prefer to use the name Archaeognatha for this order even though it seems to be widely accepted that the name Microcoryphia was pitched 1904 by Verhoeff (just) eleven days before Börner's Archaeognatha. The latter found wider acceptance initially and according to Sturm & Machida (2001) it is also a "better" descriptive name. The authors also contest the exact dates for the publications by Börner and Verhoeff, so generally both names are widely in use and it would seem that the issue might only be resolved by a ruling of the ICZN, which to my knowledge has not been requested (yet).

"Chater's Bristletail": Arthur Chater (1991) had noted that some Dilta from Ceredigion did not fully agree with hibernica - I'm assuming(!) this species is the result of a later in depth analyses of that (yes, also cf. here!]). FE (2013) only lists it for the British Isles.

It would seem that the name hibernica is for Dilta what polypoda is for the Machilidae - often applied as a "catch all" by authors unaware of the complexities involved in ID-ing the genus Dilta (or synonyms Praemachilis/Forbicina) to species. Especially for central Europe I suspect that "any" Dilta sp. is often refered too as Dilta hibernica specifically, even if only tentatively identifiable females are available (often partenogentetic). This is just a theory, but it would be worthwhile to review material from central Europe considering all new descriptions available today.
