left—going back and forth five times altogether.Then going from left to right make a largeloop in which you make three stitches goingfrom right to left. The second large loop ismade by going from left to right. In this loopyou make one stitch by going from right to left.Then make two small loops—putting one stitchin each loop. After that make two stitches in the big loop, remembering always that theloops are made from left to right and the fill-ing-in stitches from right to left. Then maketwo small loops, putting one stitch in eachloop. Then make two large loops which bringsyou to the end of the braid in which you maketwo stitches. In these two stitches going fromright to left you make two stitches, then com-ing back make two stitches from left to rightand so on alternately, five times altogether.Then make four stitches in the big loops andtwo in each of the small loops. When one isable to make this first row, the rest of thedesign can be easily worked out by followingthe diagram.
