NFC's description of the apple is: "Raised by Thomas Laxton in Lincolnshire before 1884. It received a First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1894 under its original name, 'Brown's South Lincoln Beauty'. Renamed in 1894 and introduced by Bunyard of Maidstone in 1896. Once a commercial dessert variety. Fruits have a distinct aromatic flavour."
