Keresztes werd in 1955 wereldkampioen met het sabelteam.
Keresztes won samen zijn ploeggenoten tijdens de Olympische Zomerspelen 1956 olympisch goud met het sabelteam. Na afloop van deze spelen vluchtte Keresztes samen met zijn ploeggenoot Jenő Hámori naar de Verenigde Staten, samen namen ze namens de Verenigde Staten in 1964 deel aan de spelen.
Aan het einde van de twintigste eeuw verhuisde Keresztes weer terug naar Hongarije.
