Hello Steven (WMF), welcome to the Dutch Wikipedia! Vlag van Nederland Welkomstbericht in het Nederlands
Thank you for participating in this community project. We would like to give you the opportunity to be free and productive. Here are a few directions that might help you:
  • A collection of useful links in English can be found on Help:English.
  • Please use our Sandbox (zandbak) for experimenting.
  • Feel free to add your expertise to Wikipedians by interest, and to use our Babel templates (taalsjablonen) on your user page.
  • Wikipedia has been an ongoing project for several years now. There have been discussions on many issues in the past. Please check the discussion pages (overlegpagina's) if you are in doubt about the contents of a given page.
  • If you want to make a careful start editing in Dutch, try to expand some of our stubs (beginnetjes).
  • Take care when editing someone else's work. Registered users can change the name of an article by using "Titel wijzigen". This method of renaming keeps the history (geschiedenis) of a page intact.
  • Questions about Wikipedia or for help can be asked at the Helpdesk.
  • To sign messages, use four tildes: ~~~~
  • More information (in Dutch) can be found on our conventions page and the wikiquette page.

New account creation page

bewerken

When I have a look at the Dutch page, I see "wachtwoord" above the first box where a password should be provided. Above the second box however, it says "confirm password" where it should read "bevestig wachtwoord". Obviously, this title still has to be translated to be consistent with the title above the first box. Under this, it goes forth with "Email address (optional)" where it should read "email adres (niet verplicht)".

What's totally unclear is the box "Reason". Should new users provide a reason why they want to register? Many new users register because they are urged to do so by other users when they make anonymous contributions. Won't they feel offended if they have to provide a reason there? Anyway, in Dutch it would have to be "Reden" with a very thorough explanation as to why someone would have to provide a "reden" for being able to register on Wikipedia.

I think there's a lot of hard work to be done, yet. I wish you al the success you need to get this done within just one week!  Wikiklaas  overleg  26 apr 2013 02:18 (CEST)Reageren

Error in number of users

bewerken

Hello Steven,

There is a little error between createacct-benefit-body3 and createacct-benefit-head3 (the 500.000 number on this page). In the header the text: "contributors this month" is asked to be translated, but in the body the magic function {{NUMBEROFUSERS}} is used, which returns 500.000, this wiki does not have 500.000 users in a month, I guess that's the total number of registered users. Probably this error is there in all languages and projects, a new text-to-translate with "number of users" or "users" would solve this problem. I'll now localy fix this issue for now, but guess that a interlanguage solution is necesary. Bas (o) 26 apr 2013 15:09 (CEST)Reageren

Hey there. This was an error. It should actually have used {{NUMBEROFACTIVEUSERS}}, and this will be fixed in the next release. Steven (WMF) (overleg) 29 apr 2013 22:36 (CEST)Reageren
Ok, I fixed the local text. Bas (o) 31 mei 2013 12:27 (CEST)Reageren

I assume that you don't visit this project much, so note that I posted an additional question to your post in our village pump. Trijnsteloverleg 12 feb 2014 14:00 (CET)Reageren

Ciao Steven,
Thank you very much indeed for clarrifying the isssues around yet another beta feature installed too soon on the larger versions of Wikipedia. You expect we have time to detect and possibly even solve your errors. Not in a few weeks, not even months. Never say never, but IMNSHO: not in a lifetime. Thank you and good luck  Klaas|Z4␟V6 apr 2014 08:25 (CEST) P.S. terribly sorry for shooting the messenger, but once again you seem to think we have nothing better to do like improving this huge and wonderful online cooperative encyclopedia Reageren
