Aldie (Schotland)

Hi. There seems to be a problem with Aldie (Schotland).

• The coordinate in the article does not seem to point to anywhere called Aldie - https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=15.0&lat=56.83622&lon=-5.14036&layers=6&b=1&marker=56.83622,-5.14036
• The Grid Code NH787803 does point to an Aldie, but it is perhaps 120km north-north east of the coordinate - https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16.0&lat=57.79625&lon=-4.04273&layers=6&b=1&marker=57.796169,-4.042692
• The postcode and post town are compatible with the coordinate, not the grid ref.

As far as I know, there are only 3 places called Aldie in Scotland:

• Aldie, Aberdeenshire - https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=57.449&lon=-1.885&layers=6&b=1&marker=57.449,-1.885
• Aldie, Highland - https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=57.795&lon=-4.043&layers=6&b=1&marker=57.795,-4.043
• Aldie, Perth and Kinross - https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=56.401&lon=-3.685&layers=6&b=1&marker=56.401,-3.685

Of these, Aldie, Highland is compatible with the Grid Code. None are compatible with the coordinate.

It would be excellent if you could work out what that article should be pointing to, or else delete the article if it is not clear. fwiw, right now, I've amended the coordinate on the wikidata item connected to Aldie (Schotland) to point to the Aldie, Highland 57.795,-4.043 location, since this seems the most likely candidate - it at least matches one of the four values on the article. Looks like the map on that page takes the coordinate value from wikidata, so right now the map and the numeric coordinate in the infobox do not agree with eachother :) --Tagishsimon (overleg) 23 jan 2023 02:14 (CET)

Google Maps shows me a tiny town called Aldie, close to Tain, which is what the article describes. Google Maps sends me to 57.79613948229406, -4.041496576698779, which seems to match your second entry: Aldie, Highland.

Ah, I see, the coords in the infobox are 56°50'10.4"N 5°08'25.3"W = 56.836220, -5.140360, which is indeed way off. I suppose the original author just selected some position that made the dot appear on the map sort of right, but didn't care to make the coords accurate. :) Schilbanaan (overleg) 23 jan 2023 02:59 (CET)

Dit doet me denken aan een discussie in de kroeg een paar weken geleden over een slootje in Zweden dat net zoals dit artikel geen artikel had in de Wikipedia van dat taalgebied. Dit artikel over een nederzetting in Schotland is aangemaakt door een bot zonder vermelding van een bron en enkele jaren later heeft een andere bot een Wikidata-item aangemaakt omdat er een artikel over bestond op de Nederlandse Wikipedia. Aan het begin van het doodlopende weggetje dat naar deze nederzetting leidt staat een bord van de daar gevestigde pottenbakker maar verder op deze weg geen bord met de naam Aldie.
