Door in 2014 de [[AFC Challenge Cup 2014|AFC Challenge Cup]] te winnen kwalificeerde Palestina zich voor de eerste keer voor het [[Aziatisch kampioenschap voetbal 2015|Aziatisch kampioenschap voetbal]]. In de finale werd met 1-0 van de [[Filipijns voetbalelftal|Filipijnen]] gewonnen. Alle drie de wedstrijden van het Aziatisch kampioenschap werden verloren, de doelcijfers waren één voor en elf tegen. Voor de kwalificatie van het WK van 2018 eindigde Palestina achter [[Saoedi-Arabisch voetbalelftal|Saoedi-Arabië]] en [[voetbalelftal van de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten|de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten]]. Na enig geharrewar werd de wedstrijd uiteindelijk in [[Amman (stad)|Amman]] in [[Jordanië]] gespeeld.
Vanaf 2016 speelt Palestina voor kwalificatie voor de Azië Cup in 2019. De tegenstanders zijn Oman, de Maldiven en Bhutan en de beste twee landen eindigen voor het toernooi.
