Orange Is the New Black (vaak afgekort tot OITNB^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]) is een Amerikaanse televisieserie van schrijver Jenji Kohan voor Netflix. De serie is gebaseerd op de autobiografie Orange Is the New Black door Piper Kerman.^[5] De 13 afleveringen van het eerste seizoen werden ineens uitgebracht door Netflix op 11 juli 2013. Op 9 juni 2017 werd het vijfde seizoen online gezet. Op 27 juli 2018 volgde het zesde seizoen. Vanaf 26 juli 2019 is het zevende en tevens laatste seizoen te zien.

Verhaal bewerken

Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) wordt veroordeeld tot 15 maanden gevangenis voor het transporteren van drugsgeld voor Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), een internationale drugssmokkelaar en voormalig geliefde. Chapman verruilt haar comfortabele leven in New York voor een oranje overall. In de vrouwengevangenis komt ze in aanraking met strijd en kameraadschap binnen een opmerkelijke groep gevangenen.
