Het geslacht Trygonicola, waarin de lintworm wordt geplaatst, wordt tot de familie Mixodigmatidae gerekend. De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort werd voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1906 door Shipley & Hornell.
